The extrusion press is the heart of any aluminum profile production line. But not all presses are built the same. The loading method—how the billet enters the container—makes a real difference in profile quality and production efficiency.

The YPL2000 Extrusion Press is a new-generation 2000-ton press designed for aluminum extrusion companies that need consistent precision and reliable output. It is now assembled at our Foshan facility and preparing for delivery to a customer in Brazil.

Front-Loading vs. Back-Loading: What’s the Difference?

There are two main loading methods in aluminum extrusion: front-loading (short stroke) and back-loading (conventional long stroke).

In a front-loading press, the billet is placed in front of the container, on the die side. The container then moves forward to seal against the die. This allows the billet to be upset symmetrically, with minimal gravity effect. The result is better concentricity and higher dimensional accuracy—especially important for thin-wall profiles and tubing.

In a back-loading press, the billet is loaded behind the container and pushed in by the stem. As the billet enters the container, gravity causes it to settle slightly. This can affect concentricity, particularly in large-diameter tubes. Back-loading presses also have a longer stroke and a larger footprint.

Why Front-Loading Makes a Difference

The YPL2000 uses a front-loading design with a servo billet loader. This setup brings several practical benefits:

  • Better concentricity – Symmetrical billet upsetting reduces eccentricity, improving wall thickness uniformity.

  • Shorter dead-cycle time – The short stroke design reduces idle travel. The YPL2000 achieves a dead-cycle time of just 12.5 seconds.

  • Compact footprint – The shorter front-to-back distance saves valuable floor space.

  • Flexible production – The servo loader handles different billet lengths and alloys, making it suitable for multi-product lines.

Where the YPL2000 Fits

The 2000-ton class is one of the most versatile in aluminum extrusion. It handles a wide range of profiles across different industries:

  • Architectural windows and doors – Standard and custom profiles for residential and commercial buildings.

  • Solar panel frames – Long, thin-wall profiles that require consistent dimensions.

  • High-precision tubing – Applications where concentricity and surface quality matter.

  • General industrial profiles – A broad range of shapes for machinery, transportation, and electrical applications.
